Creekview HS JROTC Cadets Win First Place at State, Rank Nationally The Creekview High School Army JROTC Program can claim a State Championship title and National ranking! Six of its teams won first place at regionals, and the cadets then competed against students from 42 schools across the state. The program placed sixth overall in the state; the Squad Exhibition Team placed fourth, and the Dual Exhibition Team of Cadet Majors Caleb Rudin and Hunter Robinson placed first and earned State Champion honors! The Dual Exhibition Team qualified to compete in the Drill Nationals competition held in Daytona Beach, FL. Fifty teams from across the nation competed, and Cadets Robinson and Rudin placed 18th!
Chattahoochee Tech and Valdosta State Sign Partnership The presidents of Chattahoochee Technical College and Valdosta State University recently signed articulation agreements that will simplify the student transition process between the two institutions of higher education. The Pathways Program agreement will allow Chattahoochee Technical College students with an Associate of Applied Science in one or more of the 39 articulated programs to maximize the transfer of credits in order to complete either a Bachelor of Science in organizational leadership, a Bachelor of Applied Science in human capital performance or a Bachelor of Science in office administration and technology in two years or less at Valdosta State University. The Pathways Program centers on the priorities of Complete College Georgia, an initiative developed to increase the number of Georgians earning a college degree. It is a collaboration between Valdosta State University and partner institutions like Chattahoochee Technical College to allow students with approved Associate of Applied Science or Associate of Applied Technology degrees to maximize the transfer of credits in order to complete a bachelors degree in two years or less.
Reformation Brewery Ranked in Top 50 Breweries in the Country Yahoo Travel has ranked Woodstocks Reformation Brewery as one of the 50 Best Breweries in America. Reformation was the only brewery in Georgia to make the list. Yahoos article stated Reformation Brewery boasts a goal of setting beer free. We think they have accomplished just that. Reviewers give the brewery a rating of 3.76 for the 44 beers produced so far. In addition to the top honor from Yahoo Travel, Reformation Brewery has also recently launched their year-round Anchor series to the market. Atlas (Rye-IPA), Cadence (Belgian Dubbel) and Stark (Porter) are now available on shelves in cans. The fourth, Union (a Witbier), is scheduled to arrive in spring 2016.
Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Selects Teen Leadership Cherokee Class of 2016 The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that participants for the 15th Annual Teen Leadership Cherokee (TLC) Class have been selected. Of the 53 Cherokee County high school sophomores who applied for the program, 20 students were chosen. Applicants were asked to submit a formal application and participated in a personal interview with local business leaders. The TLC Class has already attended an orientation with their parents and an all-day retreat, which was held in January at the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce. Over the course of three months, students will participate in four class sessions and complete an individual project, all of which will address topics such as community involvement, economic and educational responsibility, personal development and team building. A graduation ceremony and dinner will be held in late March to honor the class. The mission of TLC is to develop the knowledge and leadership skills of young people in Cherokee County so they may confidently become our leaders of tomorrow.
Local Artisans Selected For Juried Craft Show Woodworker, Bill Moore, Canton, and glass artisan, Nancy Cann, Woodstock, have been selected to display their work at the American Craft Council Show, the Southeasts largest juried indoor fine craft show, which is considered the nations premier marketplace for one-of-a-kind, quality crafts in jewelry, clothing, furniture and home dcor. These artists were selected for their stunning and cutting edge, one-of-a-kind creations, attesting to the many years they have spent mastering their craft and their highest standard of craftsmanship in the fine craft world. The show will take place on March 13 at the Cobb Galleria.
