Roswell Once Again Named a Bicycle Friendly Community

The City of Roswell has once again been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists with a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) award. With the announcement, the City of Roswell maintains its place as a leader in bicycle-oriented activities and infrastructure.

We applaud these communities for making bicycling a safe and convenient option for transportation and recreation, said Bill Nesper, executive director at the League of American Bicyclists. We are encouraged by the growing number of leaders who see bicycling as a way to build more vibrant, healthy, sustainable, and connected communities.

The City of Roswell was the first municipality in Georgia to earn this distinction in 2006, and the City has successfully continued its status for eleven consecutive years.

The BFC award is a testament to Roswells commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure projects, and special events, said Steve Acenbrak, director of the Roswell Transportation Department.

With the help of the local advocacy organization Bike Roswell, the City was able to highlight Roswells many bike friendly programs and initiatives as part of the award application process. These highlights include construction of new bike lanes, a new bike share program, bicycle-oriented special events, and Roswells annual cycling festival.
