Roswell Installs New Playground at Riverside Park The new playground equipment is made from durable material that will extend the life of the equipment, as well as provide a safer play experience. In addition, the playground area has expanded to maximize open play space in the park. Roswell Fire Accepting Applications from Residents for 2nd Community Emergency Response Team Program Roswells Fire Department is accepting applications from residents who are interested in participating in the citys second Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, which will begin January 7th. The CERT program educates participants about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. This training will allow CERT members to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members will also be encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. Roswell Building New Fire Station The City of Roswell recently broke ground on Fire Station 4 at the stations new location at Old Alabama Road and Market Boulevard, near the Publix shopping center. The new 15,000-square-foot station will be situated on three acres and will replace the current Fire Station 4 location on Holcomb Bridge Road. The two-story building will house sleeping quarters on the top floor and living quarters of the ground floor and will feature three drive-through bays. The station is set to be completed by December 2016.
Sen. John Albers Meets with Apple, Google Executives Sen. John Albers recently led delegation members to Silicon Valley to meet with Apple and Google executives to discuss digital education opportunities in Georgia, following the passage of Senate Bill 89 earlier this year. SB 89, the Digital Classroom Act, was passed during the 2015 Legislative Session and signed into law by Gov. Nathan Deal on May 6, 2015. This bill encourages all instructional material purchased by a local board of education to be in a digital or electronic format by July 1, 2020. Each local board of education is also encouraged to provide students with their own laptop, tablet or other wireless device, or allow them to bring their own to the classroom. Sen. Albers was accompanied on the visit by fellow Senators Marty Harbin, Fran Millar, Judson Hill and Bruce Thompson.

Roswell Breaks Ground on New Adaptive Therapeutic Sports Field The new field, set to open in the spring of 2016, will feature a synthetic turf that will allow wheelchairs and walkers to move freely. With the installation of this field, the City of Roswell will be able to expand their adaptive programs to include additional athletics, such as youth baseball and softball, as well as enhance the experience of sport and recreation for those individuals attending the Summer Friendship Camps. The Roswell Rotary Club has made a generous donation of $60,000 toward the project, which costs approximately $105,000 in total. In addition, the Roswell Recreation Association has donated $25,000, and a private donor has put forth $16,000 toward the project. The remaining funds will be donated by the Friends of the Roswell Parks, Inc.
