Its valuable, too, for the City of Milton to have a seat at the table, especially in these unique and challenging times. GMA divides the state into 12 districts. Lockwood is the new president of District 3s North Region, which includes Sandy Springs, Roswell, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Mountain Park, Woodstock, Holly Springs, Canton, Ball Ground, Waleska, and Milton. Chattahoochee Parks Conservancy Renamed Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy The Chattahoochee Parks Conservancy announced that it has changed its name to the Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy (CNPC) to reflect its support for the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) as part of the national park system. The CRNRA is composed of 15 park units with nearly 7,000 acres along 48 miles of the Chattahoochee River. As the official Friends group for the CRNRA, the Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy works with the National Park Service to enrich visitor experiences in the CRNRA and protect the parks natural and cultural resources. The national parks need public support, and donations to CNPC help support the local unit of the national park system. Phillip Hodges, board president for the CNPC, said, As the official Friends group for the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, having National Park in our name emphasizes that the park we support is part of our national park system. Representing 20% of the public greenspace in the Atlanta metro area and designated as the first National Water Trail, the CRNRA is one of the top 30 most visited national parks in the U.S. with over three million visitors each year. More than 90% of the funds raised by CNPC have gone directly to support the national park to enhance and restore land and water trails, improve facilities, support volunteers, and conduct outreach and education programs. Our name has changed, but our mission is the same. The Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy's mission is to build a community of support for the CRNRA and promote stewardship of its natural and cultural resources. CNPC will continue to raise funds and promote volunteerism to help the CRNRA meet its improvement goals and priority initiatives, said Hodges. For more information on how to join, donate, or volunteer with CNPC, visit ChattahoocheeParks.org. For information about the CRNRA, trail maps, and boating outfitters, visit NPS.gov/chat.

Cheers to 100 Years Milton HS Set To Celebrate 1921-2021 The 2020-2021 school year will mark the 100th anniversary of the first graduating class of Milton HS. A steering committee of current and former faculty, alumni, and parents is working diligently to plan and coordinate a yearlong celebration of this milestone. Jackie Angel, Milton 100 committee chair, hopes the anniversary festivities will give alumni time to reconnect and reminiscence about the time they spent at the historic school. For current students and families, it will be a year of celebrating their school and its enduring legacy. To honor the anniversary, several hardscaping and landscaping projects are in the works for the Milton campus. The committee plans to utilize 75th Anniversary commemorative bricks from the old Milton HS as a walkway for a project at the Birmingham Road campus. The MHS Touchdown Club has already begun selling bricks for a wall at the stadium, celebrating the schools centennial. The architectural plans feature the cornerstones from the original School Drive building. Information about the project can be found at 4EverBricks.com/donors/mhs. Please choose 100 Year Celebration Fund from the drop-down menu to help raise money for the celebration. Current and former students and families will be able to buy bricks that will be used to accent the area around the flagpole in front of the current school. Information about the projects and events will be available on the Milton 100 website Milton100.com, which is currently under construction. Throughout the year, athletic organizations, performing arts, visual arts, clubs, and alumni classes will hold special events. Athletes will wear commemorative patches on their uniforms, new banners will line the schools entrance, and historical artifacts will be on display at the school. A special family-friendly closing weekend event is planned for May 2021. Preparations are being made for a spectacular year of homecoming celebrations for Milton students and alumni.
