Book Review: The Marriage Lie

By Annell Gerson

Fans of domestic thrillers like Girl on the Train, The Silent Wife and Gone Girl will find Kimberly Belles newest book, The Marriage Lie, enthralling from the very first page. As far as Iris Griffith is concerned, she and her husband, Will, have a perfect life. Iris is a counselor at a private school in an Atlanta suburb, and Will is an on-the-rise senior software engineer for a consulting company.

They spend their down time putting sweat equity in their home, located in an older Atlanta neighborhood, undergoing trendy refurbishment. After seven years of marriage, they remain eyes glazed over in love with each other and have recently decided to have children.

But on the morning Will flies to Orlando to give the keynote speech at a cyber security summit, bliss becomes heartache, confusion and a mired quest for truth. Instead of flying to Orlando, Iris learns he flew to Seattle, and the plane he was on crashed, killing everyone on board. Though Iris initially believes the airline has contacted her in error, (after all, she has a copy of the flyer announcing Wills presentation in Orlando) when he doesnt return her calls, doesnt come home, and ultimately, when the airline returns his wedding ring, she knows he is truly dead.

Iris is overcome by grief, but she cant stop thinking, why? Why would Will lie to her about the trip? And if the trip was a lie, were there other secrets he kept from her? Her quest to uncover the truth leads her to the discovery of a man she has never known. Full of believable, gritty, pulse-raising twists and turns, readers follow Iris on her cross-country journey in search of truth...and in so doing, may find themselves questioning how well they know their own spouse.

Kimberly Belle lives in the suburbs of Atlanta. Bookmiser will host Kimberly on Sunday, January 22, 2017, from 2-3:30 pm, for an author tea and discussion of The Marriage Lie. This is a free event. Please RSVP to 770-993-1555.
